How to trap?
Just because your using a ‘humane’ trap does not mean that the feral cat won’t injure or even kill themselves in your trap. If you do not observe careful trapping techniques before and handling procedures afterward this is not only possible but even likely. When trapped the animal experiences not one but two traumatic events. First: when the trap snaps shut the animal will panic – running into the front and then spinning around and charging the back of the trap, often more than once. This usually results in cuts, bruises and scrapes to the nose and face. Second: When you attempt to collect your trap with the panicked animal inside you should be aware that most feral would rather die than be captured or for that matter even close to a human. Approach the trap from behind cover of some kind then immediately place a towel or old blanket over the trap so that the animal cannot see you – wait several minutes quietly before lifting the trap and moving it. Allowing the animal to see you while
