Good question. It IS doable, it’s just a matter of how much time and effort it will take. Some airlines make it easy to use a voucher for a 3rd party and some, unfortunately, do not. Even if the voucher fine print says the word(s) Non-Transferable it still IS possible for it to be used by someone else. Some airlines vouchers (or travel certificates) use a PIN code and can be redeemed on the airline’s web site. When you go to redeem the voucher you simply book flights as you normally would (using the other person’s name as the passenger) and then when you get to the payment screen you enter the PIN code. The web site does NOT care that the name on the voucher does not match that of the passenger but ONLY that the PIN code matches. The airline’s computer system goes by the PIN code on the voucher and NOT the name. If that does not work in your case then you may need to find a nice Supervisor in United’s reservation system (via phone) or at the airport (in person). If the first Supervisor
