How to train a border collie?
Being smart does not necessarily make Border Collies easy to train. Some of them can be quite hard headed and difficult to train. I have one who can be absolutely obstinate when she is not getting her way. Other BCs are very eager to please and easier to train. Staying in the yard can be a real problem for a high drive Border Collie, especially if they are unattended. I have talked to some people who managed to train their BCs to the perimeter of their yards but I personally would not risk it. My girls get intent on something and they are GONE, which is why we have a large fenced area for them. The things that they need most from you in order to be successful is structure and consistency in training.
