Toilet training a new puppy need not be a stressful time for either you or your new puppy. If your new puppy will be kept in the house as most are, first find a suitable place in the house for the puppy to relieve itself. Very often, the bathroom or a small area of the kitchen is used after removing any items that may harm the dog that the dog can harm. Many new owners use newspaper or puppy pads to line the acceptable area. Your puppy will soon get used to using the paper or puppy pads and stop using other areas of the house to relive itself. Puppies will make mistakes however and as the owner, you should not be overly critical or hit the dog. A firm “no” is all that is needed.
