How to Tell if a Cat has Hyperthyroidism?
The first sign of hyperthyroidism is loss of weight. This happens even as the cat is eating plenty of foods more often. The cat will also drink more, become more irritable, is more restless and more hyperactive. Sometimes, diarrhea, loss of appetite, vomiting and weakness are seen. One of the subtle signs of hyperthyroidism in a cat is decreased tolerance to heat which leads the cat to seek cooler areas where he can rest. Panting and low grade fever may also be symptoms of hyperthyroidism. If the cat is suffering from other diseases, which will be likely because of his old age, it will be a little harder to detect signs of hyperthyroidism. It will also be hard to detect the disorder if it’s already in the advanced state.
