How to take care of baby gerbils?
The good news is that you don’t need to worry too much about how to take care of the baby gerbils – momma gerbil will take care of just about everything. To start with, make sure dad’s not still in the cage, if he was – sometimes gerbils come home from pet stores already pregnant. Mom should be by herself, and give her planty of nesting type material so that she can build a little nest or two for her babies. I’m not a fan of wood chips, but if that’s what you’re using, it’s okay. Give her some paper to shred (my guys always liked shredding Kleenex for warm little gerbil beds too) and maybe also some paper towel to make a soft nest for the little ones. Do this each time you clean out or change her cage, as you won’t know for sure when the little ones are coming. When the babies arrive, make sure the cage is in a quiet place where momma won’t feel stressed. A closet or a quiet room is ideal. When the babies are born they will be tiny and pink and hairless, and momma gerbil will take care
