How to take care of a donkey?
I’m not really an expert on donkeys, we only have one we rescued from an abusive situation. It seems to me that a donkey eats about 1/2 what you would feed a horse. Our donkey lives with our senior stallion, his choice, and I give the two of them about 30-35 lbs of alfalfa hay a day, I also only feed once a day, as I’ve gotten older and still working, once a day is the best I can manage. Nobody seems to mind and all are thriving. I don’t give the donkey grain or sweet feed as it seems to make him bray and moon about wishing for more. Youngsters can tolerate more feed than adults, but the only time I have problems with the donkey is when grass comes on. He is happy, but gets very, very fat. Overall, I would just feed a donkey according to size.
