How to start playing the electric guitar?
I would check out www.musiciansfriend.com. Look at some of the higher rated guitars and read reviews. Getting a guitar depends on what type of music you desire playing on it. A lot of people playing heavier music, such as metal, swear by Ibanez and Schecter. Gibson and Fender are known for great guitars. Fender has a more clean sounding approach, while Gibson tends to make it more heavy. Squiers are the cheap Fenders, while Epiphones are like cheap Gibson copies. I don’t know your price range, so I can’t make any definite recommendations. If you are fairly sure you intend on playing for a long time, you should invest about as much into your guitar + amp as you can/want to. If you keep your guitar in good shape it will have a decent resale value anyways. Since you can’t probably play anything, find out what your favorite guitarists use for their guitar.
