How to soften hardened white sugar?

I’m not sure I fully understand what you’re asking. If the sugar clumped because it got slightly damp, just go over it and even in your hand or using a fork reduce it to grains again. If the sugar has really melted and is crystallized, I would throw it away or use it as raw sugar before meltig, but you have to be careful if you’re cooking with this sugar, because the quantities of granulated sugar might not coincide with the bigger lumps. And always make sure you keep your sugar in a dry place, and that nobody puts a wet teaspoon inside.
