How to shave without cutting yourself?
Spend some time choosing a good razor–they aren’t all the same. I wound up going with a Gillette Mach 3, despite the spendy replacement heads. Always use sharp blades; dull ones will rough you up in a hurry. Allow yourself to soak a bit before breaking out the shaving gel. Water has a softening effect on hair. My advice is to use a good body wash and sponge before attempting to shave, so that you get your bathing out of the way and moisten the skin. I also recommend shaving gel over shaving cream. Avenno makes some nice ones. Do not put much downward pressure on the razor while you’re shaving; you’re not trying to remove the top layer of skin! Also, avoid making side-to-side motions with the blade–always pull straight ahead. After showering, rub a small amount of lotion over your skin. It’ll help keep the skin and stubble soft for easier shaving next time. If you’re not a big lotion fan, try using aloe vera gel, which won’t leave your skin oily or clog pores. Hope this helps!
