How to set up a home anonymous proxy server?
I’ve set up a private proxy using SQUID. It is anonymous in the sense it won’t convey information about the machines and ip addresses from my internal network to the outside world. It is also only accessible from inside my network and not from outside. But Squid lets you make it public and anonymous. Its just a matter of configuration. Note that the prime role of a proxy server is to offer localized storage for Internet content, its a cache, a “web accelerator”. It is also a way to centralize and filter Internet access. (who can / cannot access the Internet, when, for how long per day, which kind of sites are allowed / disallowed and so on). As Marcin said, however, creating a publicly available anonymous proxy can lure some malicious people to use your proxy to anonymously access forbidden sites (child pornography, among others) or convey Spam or carry out any other kind of criminal activity (phishing, malware propagation, botnet control, etc.); You could be held responsible of that!
