How to schedule/plan 3days in Vienna and Hallstatt?
Hallstatt and Vienna is over 300km apart, and travelling by train takes about 4-5 hours, depending on the train connection, since there is no direct train there. Do you really want to spend some 9-10 hours from your 3 days on train journey? If so, my suggestion is: Sunday : spend the day in Vienna Monday : rise and shine early, to catch morning train (e.g. 7.44 train that arrives at 11.48, or 8.30 train arrives at 12.27, both from Wien Westbahnhof) to Hallstatt. Good thing, this is a very small town and can be toured quickly, but you can take your time for leisurely visit. Return to Vienna using evening train (e.g. 15.32 arrives at 19.18, or 16.09 train to arrive at 20.28). You should have a good 3 hours or so in Hallstatt.
