How To Report a Debt Collector in Violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act?
Many debt collectors seem to think that because money is owed, they are allowed to do whatever they want to get you to pay them back or at least make you miserable in the meantime. Even if they don´t believe this, many debt collectors know that debtors aren´t always aware of their rights, and use that knowledge to break and bend the rules to obtain their money all the faster by any means possible. The fact is, though, that you have rights whether or not you owe money, and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) is there to ensure that your rights are enforced. Your rights under the FDCPA mean that a creditor may not contact you in the following ways: Harassing you creditors cannot abuse, oppress, harass, or deceive you, no matter how much money you may owe them. Such behaviors can include threatening you, using your name in a publication that identifies you as someone who doesn´t pay (unless it is to one of the credit bureaus), using profane language, or calling you repeatedly.
