How to replace a 2005 chevy cavalier starter?

First disconnect the ground (-) post on your battery then you will need to raise your car off the ground high enough to get under it to remove the starter you do not need to lift the engine it has two bolts holding the starter to the engine they will be near the trans at the head of the starter . Disconnect the wires with a 8mm wrench and a 13mm wrench then remove the bolts holding the starter. It sounds like the solenoid has gone bad which is on the starter once you have gotten the starter replaced go to your nearest chevy dealer there may be a open recall to have a relay installed in the wiring to your starter to prevent the solenoid from burning out again Hope this helps you and good luck.
