How to repair leaking roof without re-roofing the whole house?
Finding leaks on a bad roof is difficult. The place it appears may not be where it is leaking. Leaking does usually appear first at corners and valleys where flashing is present and on the side where the sun shines most (south side in the northern hemisphere.) Temporary repairs might be made with tube of tar in a caulking gun, roof cement (patch, repair…) which is basically tar in a can, and/or using a tarp to cover the area. All have their drawbacks and working on a roof if you are not completely comfortable with the process and procedure can be a larger economic setback than a new roof.
