Please please ignore all the other ridculous suggestions about what is happening here and how to repair it. Of course leather on furntiure is properly tanned it wouldn’t be leather otherwise. Yes it does have a painted surface but this is very sophisticated. It is still leather and leather has had a painted (pigmented) surface for years (unless it is aniline style leather). Leather is not vinyl even when it has a pgmented coating. Breakdown of finish is a common problem I’m afraid. You have not said how old your couch is but if it is less than 1 year old then you need to go back to the retailer as this is a manufacturing fault. Many finishes on leather now are not as good as they used to be (particularly on the imports from China) and they do break down easier than they did. Finish can also be broken down by using incorrect cleaning and care products particularly some conditioners or solvent based products (cleaners in aerosol cans can cause this). If the couch is a single colour and t
