Adding Detergent, vinegar etc may have set the stain. When you have a liquid stain the first thing you want to do is pour twice as much club soda (no lemon/lime flavor) over the stain. Work in into the stain and then place a white terry cloth towel about 2 to 3 inches thick on top of the stain. Next place 2 to 3 telephone book on top of the dry terry cloth towels. Leave for a few hours. The stain will react with the club soda. It will wicket up the carpet fiber into the more absorbent cotton towels. It will keep the stain from getting into your padding. (if you don’t do this, when you clean you see spots reappear its the stain wicking from the backing and padding.) If you have any staining use Chem Dry Stain Extinguisher (Home Depot) to finish it off. Remember carpet has 4 faces. Spray the stain extinguisher on the stain.
