Normally you use some connection, duct or filter etc. this will reduce the noise level. Another good idea is to increase the duct , this means that you reduce the inlet velocity of the air that creates noise. Just make sure that you keep the needed transport velocity for your application. For example : welding fume 10-15 m/s, grinding 15-20 m/s etc.
