How to record xbox 360 gameplay without capture card?

I want to record my xbox 360 gameplay, but without having to buy a capture card (My PC’s CD/DVD reader/drive is screwed, so I can’t install the capture card’s software). I saw a guy on youtube saying that you can use a VHS player, buy some AV cables for an xbox and plug in a video camera’s AV cables into the other side of the VHS player then going to “playback” on the camera and pressing record.
