How to rearrange a quadratic equation?

First, this is an expression. It is not a formula or an equation because 2x^2 – 2x + 4 doesn’t = anything so there is nothing to rearrange! I assume you meant to have 2x^2 – 2x + 4 = 0 So to make x the subject which means having just x = something we factorise out the 2 and then complete the square and rearrange: => 2[x^2 – x + 2] = 0 => 2[(x – 1/2)^2 – (-1/2)^2 + 2] = 0 => 2(x- 1/2)^2 – (1/4) + 2] = 0 => 2[(x- 1/2)^2 + 7/4] = 0 => 2(x -1/2)^2 + 14/4 = 0 => 2(x-1/2)^2 = -14/4 = -7/2 => (x-1/2)^2 = (-7/2)/2 = -7/4 => x- 1/2 = +/- sqrt (-7/4) Now at this stage we must note that there are no real solutions to sqrt (-7/4). So have you written the expression correctly or does 2x^2 – 2x + 4 = something other than 0. Alternatively, have you studied complex numbers?
