How to propose a Natural Heritage Area (NHA) in Ireland?

Hi, you might do well to post this in the Ireland section as well. Also, you haven’t specified if it is the Republic or Northern Ireland – different bodies are responsible for each. In the Republic, the National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS) is the section of the Department of the Environment Heritage and Local Government which is responsible for conservation in Ireland and which deals with the designation of NHAs. Their website is www.npws.ie. I couldn’t find the procedures on the website, but they do day that “persons interested in acquiring statutory protection for their lands can seek advice on this matter from the Department”. Here is a paper on progress made in conservation in Ireland and a summary of relevant legislation, procedures and statutory bodies. http://www.ria.
