How to pronounce vegan?
First syllable: vee Hard G as in ‘get’ ‘An’ is pronounced ‘n’ – sounds the same as the last syllable of ‘vegetarian’. The stress is on the first syllable A few people do pronounce the ‘vee’ as ‘vay’, but I disagree with Scocasso that this was the norm until the 90s. I first heard the word in the 1960s, and it was being pronounced ‘veegan’ then. More importantly, Donald Watson, who coined the word in the 1940s, pronounced it ‘veegan’.
