How to process qualitative data (for a lab report)?

For qualitative data typically you can use either a nominal or ordinal scale. With nominal scales your data will simply belong to sets which have no intrinsic order to them (e.g. males & females). Statistically you can compare them using the mode as given by the set with the largest cardinality (size). With ordinal scales you can rank your data (i.e. emphasise the order of the data) based on some definition. Statistically you can use the mean or mode as a measure of central tendancy and percentiles (or other quantiles) as measures of spread.
