How to Prevent Skin Cancer
By far the most important preventive measure is to protect the skin from sun exposure. Whether wearing sun protective clothing and eye wear, seeking shade, or wearing appropriate sunscreen, sun protective practices will protect your skin and likely prevent skin cancer. Broad brimmed hats, UVA blocking eyewear and broad spectrum sunscreens that specifically say UVA I, UVA II and UVB protection are recommended. Some dermatologists believe UVA I is most likely to cause melanoma. Sunscreen should be applied 30 minutes prior to sun exposure and reapplied every 90 minutes to 2 hours.
