For energy to flow freely, all the joints of the body have to be properly serviced and the vertebral column energized in all its sections. This is achieved through a series of postures and counter postures. Yogis advise us to maintain flexibility and stability of the vertebral column. It constitutes the vital axis of the body. Within it are several chakras (energy centers) and Sushuma nadi (central energy channel) There are many asanas which give strength to the anterior, posterior and lateral muscles which keep the spine straight and at the same time make it flexible. There are exercises for all sections of the vertebral column (cervical, thoracic and lumber).
