How to paint a landscape where the sun is at back of painter?

At sunset, the sky opposite to the sun often has color as well, but not as strongly as closer to where the sun is setting. I don’t think you need to always paint with the sun in view. I’ve painted at sunset many time directly from life without having the sun in view.
