How to measure energy efficiency rating (EER) or coefficient of performance (COP)?

0

It is mandatory for single phase air conditioners (small wall and split units) to have an energy star rating. However for the larger three phase systems, energy efficiency labelling is voluntary. The COP/EER is a measure of the energy efficiency of the system. Generally COP and EER mean the same thing, however by convention EER refers to the efficiency of cooling systems and COP refers to the efficiency of heating systems. It is calculated by dividing the rate at which heat is added or removed from a room (ie. the capacity output) by the electricity/gas power input: EER = rated cooling capacity output (kW)/cooling input power (kW) COP = rated heating capacity output (kW)/heating input power (kW) To find the COP / EER of your system, check with the manufacturer, or alternatively visit www.energyrating.gov.au for a list of models and their equivalent star ratings. If there is no label, star rating or COP / EER provided, the efficiency of the unit can be determined by using the provided c
