How to make tiramusi without mascarpone cheese, any idea for a substitute?

Well, it’s really only tiramisu when made with mascarpone, but I would think the closest substitute would be ricotta. There’s a quick tiramisu you can make by whisking the mascarpone with fresh custard and some brandy, then layering that with the sponge and amaretto then putting whipped cream and chocolate flakes on the top – I’m sure it would still be pretty good if you used extra custard and left out the mascarpone.
