How to make homemade bubblegum?
In order to make bubblegum at home, you will need some unconventional supplies from the store first. Gum base, citric acid and glycerin are not things commonly kept in your pantry, but you can find them in kits you can purchase online at leeners.com. To start, take the gum base, glycerin and citric acid and place them in a microwave safe bowl, cook for 30 seconds, remove from microwave and stir. If it’s not melted, return to microwave and cook 10 second intervals until it is. Once melted, add food coloring and flavoring to the gum base and stir well. Out of a half cup of powdered sugar, remove a heaping tsp and set aside, dumping half the remaining sugar on a flat surface, make a well and add the gum base. Slowly mix together the sugar and gum base as if you were kneading bread. Add more sugar when dough gets sticky and continue adding until the dough is stiff and smooth, working in all the sugar. Make a dough rope about 1/2 inch in diameter and slice off pieces at 1/2 inch increments.
