How to make a pond filter?
One easy way to make a pond filter is to use lava rocks.Sink a small container in the ground nearby your pond, or at the top of your water fall. Fill it at least 3/4 of the way with clean lava rock. You need to plumb your water to come from the pond up to and into the filter you have made and provide a hole in the filter near the water line for the water to flow out of. This is the ideal way of having your waterfall start. No chemicals, nothing to break down. The lava rocks provide the filtration you need.
