How to make a non-pathogen become pathogenic?
Some bacteria can take part in a type of exchange of nuclear material that allows them to pass on drug resistance. This called conjugation. It is thought to have occurred between some E. coli that are not generally pathogenic and some other types of Gram negative bacteria that live in similar places and were not sensitive to current antibiotics.
