How to make a connection. I ve connected the DTE to my phone, but how do I dial out?
A. Once the Digital Telephone Enabler (DTE) is connected to your phone, you will need to (1) dial the number on the phone to place the call and (2) have your modem application connect to the remote answering modem. An example of a typical operation is as follows: 1. Open your email application or ISP application and prepare to click on Dial or Connect 2. Lift your phone handset from the receiver and set it down on your desk 3. Click on Dial/Connect/Send to initiate the modem in your notebook 4. Hang the phone handset up and then remove it again and set back down on the desk 5. Dial the phone number on the phone itself and the modem should connect If the phone system you are using supports Auto-Dialing then you will only be doing steps 1-3. Refer to the phone compatibility chart (available online) to check compatibility with your modem.
