Start by cutting the bamboo fishing pole into a section about 18 – 20 inches. There must be a “knuckle” or piece of fibrous material between the two ends. Measure and mark your flute 1 inch from the base, then measure 6 inches from that mark and mark it again, then make 4 more marks from the second, each 1 inch apart. You will end up with 6 marks altogether. Hold the steel rod on one end while wearing the oven mitt and heat the other end with the propane torch until it is very hot. Insert the heated rod into one end of the bamboo and push it slowly through the fibrous tissue or knot, but stop before going through the last knot. The last knot must remain intact for it to work.
