There are a couple of different ways to keep bees away from your hummingbird feeder. Try placing you feeder in the shade–bees prefer to feed in the sun. Another method is to place a shallow saucer with 1:1 ratio of sugar and water in the sun. This will draw the bees away from your feeder. Most feeders come with bee guards. Unfortunately, many of them are yellow, which attracts the bees. Paint these with red paint or fingernail polish to avoid attracting the bees. Finally, only partially filling your feeder. The long tongue of the hummingbirds will still reach the nectar, but the bees will not be to reach it.
