How to introduce golden retriever (rescue dog) to new puppy!!?
If your Golden is a buttinsky then what will help is NOT to reward him for butting in for petting. The next time he does it, ignore him. If you give in and pet him, he learns that butting in gets him what he wants. Having them meet on neutral territory should help. Just keep in mind that if they are in the car together on the way back and your Golden is used to having the back seat all to himself, he might be annoyed at having company. Finally, if this is a very young puppy you should not have too many problems if your Golden is a normal, well-adjusted dog. Your Golden will most likely see this as a new playmate. Little puppies can usually get away with murder because of the “puppy license.” By the time your pup gets to be about 4 months though, don’t be too surprised if the older dogs starts to give the puppy what-for for bad behavior. The older dog will see himself as the teacher, and somebody has to teach the little one the ways of dogs. Good luck and I hope it works out!
