How to install kitchen sink drain plumbing?
In Illinois you have to use a minimum size of 2″ pipe for the drain and vent. The vent has to be extended through the roof independently (no other vents tied in) Depending on the town or area in which you live, the drain pipe may be PVC schedule 40 or metal of the code approved type (there are many). The water pipe almost always has to be metallic. The type of metallic pipe required is also usually specified. Air chambers are required so be sure to install them. Check with the local building department to be sure. The under sink connections in the cabinet may also be of the same materials so check on the code requirements here. The pipe size under the sink is 1-1/2″ (tubular type) but you have to be sure to install a cleanout of full size under the sink (required by code also).
