Size of MTU has an impact on the VPN traffic performance. It is possible to change MTU size for all traffic going through VPN tunnel. Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) is the largest size packet that can be sent over TCP/IP. Messages longer than the MTU must be divided into smaller packets which slows traffic. Larger packets (i.e. bigger MTU) might not be supported by some network elements, and shall be broken up which slows traffic.
