Remember that Indian and Pakistani English are very similar (started diverging only 60 years ago), and in turn are different than British English, American, Canadian, Australian, etc. There is no one English — it’s splintering into dozens of more or less mutually understandable separate languages. Eventually, they’ll probably be as different as Norwegian and Swedish, or Danish and German. This assumes that there is no one international standard that everyone makes an effort to follow. So, the first question is, whose English should they speak? If they’re looking to sound like Americans, they should listen to American radio, movies, etc., and practice with someone experienced in that dialect who can correct them as necessary. Same thing for British English (the “real” English, you could say) or any other variant.
