How to identify the printing paper of a book on amazon.com?
There is no way. Many books now are printed on paper made from wood chips, which is not as strong as a wood pulp based sheet and deteriorate quickly. In general, the best guide is price. Books that cost $30 or above are usually printed on a good grade of paper but without being an expert (I qualify, but on-line even one such as I can tell nothing) one can often not tell much about the quality of paper. All books printed before 1800 are printed on rag based stock. Most American books are now perfect bound, another source of anguish to one who loves books for their physical properties. Perfect binding means the volumes are not sewn (the bolts of the signatures closest to the spine are cut off or simply scored) and so will not remain intact as long as sewn bindings. More British books are sewn, but British paper is often worse than American.
