How to help my 5month old puppy who had intestinal surgery & umbilical cord hernia surgery!!!?
One thing yet to be mentioned is giving your puppy a soft bed to sleep on if it hasn’t already got one. Also it might be a good idea to build an enclosure with a large box or something and keep it in a warm and quiet part of the house. Any animal that has had one surgery let alone two, just needs time to recover and heal in a relaxed environment.
Well for a start why on earth are you trying to pick him up!! He needs rest and quiet to recover from all this surgery poor boy. He should be drinking, but don’t worry if he doesn’t take much in at this point, just so long as he is drinking. Did they give him a buster collar because he needs to leave those stitches alone to let the wound heal. Talk to your vet about the amount of pain relief he’s on because the pain should be controlled. It could be that he needs more than he’s on at present. Bottom line – if you are not happy about his recovery, call your vet for advice. He is young to have to go through all this, but being young is actually in his favour because, like with children, although they go down very fast, they usually bounce back equally fast. Just leave him in a warm and quiet place to recover – and quit with the picking up!!!
