How to grass over a soakaway?

The worst thing you could do is cover the soakaway with soil. As soon as it rains the soil will be washed into the soakaway and if you keep replacing it, will eventually clog it and then flood. Get hold of some “Terram” or similar product from your builders merchant. This is a woven cloth like material that allows water to pass through but not soil. Cover the soakaway with two layers of it allowing a generous overlap. Cover this with soil and then lay your turf. This area will always drain quicker than the surrounding area so you will need to water the grass more often during dry periods. Hope this has helped.
