How to give my 65 pound puppy a bath?
Your doing everything right. The only thing I could suggest is to try to reward and distract the dog while he is in the tub. Most dogs are food motivated. Obviously you are going to need an extra special treat to over come the dogs anxiety during bath time. Grill up some chicken or beef and cut into small bite size pieces. First give the dog a small piece to let him know how delicious it is. Then have him follow you up into the bathroom and give him another piece. This is where it can become tricky because the dog might already sense it’s going to get a bath. Have everyone get the dog into the tub and start scrubbing him. Continue to give the dog his tasty treats while he is being bathed. If it’s to hectic and crazy to feed the dog at the same time hes getting his bath wait until the end of the bath and while he remains inside the tub feed him the treats. Hopefully, the dog will stop associating the bath as a horrible experience or hopefully the treats will distract him enough to allow
I have a 125 lb. rotti and just yesterday we gave her a bath.. She doesn’t like the water but, she lets us do it anyway…. Eventually, your puppy will just get used to an annual bath.. We bathe our dog about once every couple of months. They don’t need a bath unless they get really dirty or muddy… I give lots of treats and praise… Though she’s not a fan of water she’ll pitifully walk into the bathroom and get into the tub… She looks like a dog on death row…! We just wet her down gently and watch her eyes and ears…. Give her a good rinse and she’s done…
