You could just let one of the two learn it from enemies, then have him cast it on the other later in one of the random skirmishes to teach it to him, too. Yes, you can teach Ultima and the -aja spells (Curaja, Blizzaja, etc) to allies by having one of your own attack them with it! The same rules apply though: only Squire Ramza & Hunter Luso can learn Ultima, only mages can learn -aja spells, they must survive the attack, and they may not be able to learn it on the first try. There’s also an esper (Zodiark) which can only be acquired by a summoner through surviving its attack. The battle on the rooftop is the most difficult battle in which you can learn Ultima, so I wouldn’t suggest doing it there.
