How to get the dry compressed sound of Kanye Wests Gold Digger?

And that track ‘All falls down’ I have a small home set up. Mac/Logic and Instruments, mostly MIDI. I have these songs on CD and am listening to them on my Genelec 1031 monitors. I really notice these tracks have a dry older sound. Maybe it’s heavily compressed or something. But I especially notice the nature of this dry style mix when these songs are played on TV with the music videos. When I watched them on TV I was thinking how much I like this dry sound. I’m not an expert audio engineer but if I had to guess it sounds like there is tube disortion, gated dry, compessed etc etc. But I’m just guessing. I have the tracks on CD and I don’t notice the sound as much. Maybe it is more noticeable on TV cause it is in comparison to other music styles. But I like the dry almost muffled sound of these mixes. Kind of like a vintage sound I think. Thanks, Roman.
