How to get rid of the smell of smoke in our home?
When you launder items add 2/3 cup of either borax or baking soda along with the detergent in the wash cycle or 1 cup of vinegar to the rinse water because they all eliminate smoke odors effectively. Whenever I’ve had a smoker in one of my rentals, I have the walls primed with a stain and odor blocking primer like Kilz or Zinsser. Because drywall is porous, the smell gets into it and heat will release it back into the unit. The primer blocks it from so doing. I usually replace carpets & padding, but you can sprinkle baking soda or borax and let it sit overnight, but do it frequently because the smoke gets all of the way down into the padding and you will continue to walk the odor up. When I had a fire a few years ago, I discovered a product called Krud Kutter which I found at Lowes. It removes soot, cleans almost any surface and removes smoke odor. I washed down all of my doors, window blinds, baseboards, cupboards, wainscoting, & molding with it and it works well. Also, change out you
