Grease and oil stains (including those of mineral origin) can be removed by applying a “paste” made from a sorbent (gypsum, talcum, sepiolite, etc. Sepiolite is best because of its larger surface area) and a suitable solvent, for instance: trichloroethylene, toluene, hydrocarbons and combinations of these. Spread a layer of sorbent at least 1 centimetre thick on twice the surface of the stain. Add the solvent to the sorbent to make a sort of paste and leave the solvent to evaporate. Remove the past when dry and repeat if the stain has not completely disappeared. Sometimes, when the stain has seeped in or the room temperature is too high (for instance in summer), you may have to slow evaporation down by using a poorly volatile solvent (for instance, high-boiling hydrocarbons, toluene, etc.) or by covering the paste with a glass, cup, etc. Be careful because the solvent is easily flammable and lets out harmful exhalations: do not work near flames and provide adequate ventilation if worki
