My 8 week old puppy will not walk when she has her leash on, how can i get her to walk instead of gettin dragged? Hi This is a common problem! Firstly, you need to make sure your pup is comfortable wearing her leash. Start by letting her wear it around the house for short periods (with you supervising), and then take her for short ‘walks’ indoors where she feels safe and secure. If she still sits down, or lies down, or generally refuses to walk when you take her outside, then you need to encourage her enthusiastically! Try holding a very tasty treat right in front of her nose, at your knee level. Move it forward and entice her to follow it. After a few feet, give her the treat and then repeat with another one. Gradually lengthen the distance she walks before getting the treat. Puppies love to follow fast moving objects, and are very inquisitive.
