How to get into the Gymnasium in Germany?
First of all you will need a German translation of your last school reports indicating your grades. Please be aware that your grades should be good if you want to attend a Gymnasium. Contact the local german Gymnasium and make an appointment with the headmaster who will after an interview with you decide which class you will join. After 6 months your teachers will discuss with the headmaster whether you were put in the right school and the right year – maybe either you or your class is too advanced. There will be no test. In my school there was this Indian girl who was 16 when she joined our school. She rapidly picked up German and got along well. If you haven’t started yet, try to learn some German before your interview and show your motivation to learn. Note: some cities in Germany have international schools with classing being held in English. That could be an alternative if you do not manage to pick up the German language.
