How to get closure without an open casket?
Hey there, I’m really sorry for your loss. It’s hard to lose anyone you’re close to, especially when it’s unexpected. A month ago, one of my close friends committed suicide. It was, as you’d expect, completely unexpected and an utter shock. I had hung out with him just a few hours before he did it, so my last memories of him were all of him being alive and happy. His parents could not handle an open casket, so the funeral was very strange for me. I had expected to be able to gain closure from seeing physically that he was dead, but I never got that chance. I guess I can’t give you a great answer because I myself am still trying to deal with not being able to see him again. I still think about him in terms of him being alive because I can’t imagine him in death. Losing someone is so hard, but what has helped me over the past month is to remember the good times with him and just to tell myself that he is gone but he’s watching over for me and all of our friends now.
