It was a bit drastic to buy a new drive. I assume you have already fitted the new drive in place of the old one You will need your original XP install disk. You also need to change the Boot sequence so that when you start your PC it sees the CD/DVD drive first. To do this you will need to access the BIOS during the boot process normally this is by pressing a specific key, it may be Del or F2 but if you are eagle-eyed it will say on the screen momentarily. Once into the BIOS there will be a section saying boot sequence or priority – select CD/DVD as 1st priority, save your settings put the XP install disk in the CD drive and reboot.

Boot from your windows XP CD It will give you the option to create a partition and format it during the normal install process.
